12 Places Where You Can Say Howdy to Other Texans Living in Colorado

When you’re homesick for a little bit of Texas, there are places where you can buy products that remind you of home or meet other Texans living in Colorado. Here are some of the most popular organizations and gathering spots in the Denver area.

University of Texas Alumni Organization. Denver has one of the largest alumni contingents outside of Texas. This 125-year old chapter of “Texas Exes” holds networking events, game-watching parties and fund-raisers.

The Denver A&M Club. These Aggies alumni get together for fun, fellowship, game-watching and funding scholarships for Texas A&M students from Denver.

Texas Tech Denver Alumni. Raiders alumni gather to socialize, network and raise scholarship funds for Denver students headed to Texas Tech.

The Music Fest. Now in its 25th year, the MusicFest draws thousands of music-lovin' folks to Steamboat, Colorado every January for six days of the finest Texas and Americana music.

Texans in Colorado on Facebook. Meet your fellow Texans in Colorado in virtual space and get together for game watching and other social activities.

 

Where to Find Good Texas Eats in Colorado

Saltgrass Steak House. Enjoy heapin’ big helpings of steaks, burgers, sandwiches, chicken and seafood in Parker, Westminster and Colorado Springs.

The Aquarium Restaurant in Downtown Denver. From the Texas-based Landry’s restaurant people, the Aquarium lets you dine while watching sea creatures float around in a 150,000 gallon tank. The menu includes steaks, chicken, salads, pasta and (naturally) seafood.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Chow down on Texas Gulf Coast oysters and other seafood specialties. Locations in Greenwood Village and Westminster.

Joe’s Crab Shack. This Texas favorite serves up big platters of seafood, steak, chicken and their classic steampots. Locations in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Parker and Westminster.

Landry’s Seafood House. Offering up a taste of the Gulf Coast, Landry’s delivers a wide variety of seafood as well as steak and chicken. Located in Englewood.

Jack in the Box. What is there to say? If you’ve got a hankering for a burger, this is the place. Locations throughout the state.

Russell Stover Candies. This Colorado-based candy store is your Blue Bell Ice Cream headquarters. You’re likely to run into other Texans stocking up on Candy Jar or Mocha Madness. Locations in Arvada and Denver.

Do they Really Hate Texans in Colorado?

You’ve probably heard talk about Coloradoans’ dislike of Texans. Is it true? Well, yes and no. Colorado folks are among the friendliest around and tend to welcome everybody regardless of occupation, status, race or what kind of car they drive.

However, you do hear some grumbling about Texans coming in and buying up mountain property, driving our big cars and our lack of technique (in their opinion) on the ski slopes. Look at it this way—it just gives us a reason to bond with other Texans in Colorado!
